Alan and I have been going to Smarty Pants in Georgetown for years, and it always seems to be a favorite for out of town guests. For many of our friends, a trip to Smarty Pants is a must-see on their Seattle agenda.
Smarty Pants has the classic biker bar atmosphere, which, in my opinion isn’t a bad thing, considering how much character Seattle has lost due to gentrification. It’s fun and relaxed, and they have a large patio with a cool back yard feel. Part of it is covered, which makes it a great place to eat during the COVID era.
They also have limited indoor seating as well as takeout, and are open for lunch and dinner, and brunch on weekends.
Smarty Pants has a fairly large menu of mostly sandwiches and salads, with more breakfast-y entrees for brunch. They also have a full bar along with beer, wine, and ciders.
The sandwiches at Smart Pants are HUGE, can easily feed two people and have names like the Troublemaker, Italian Stallion, Chickenhawk, Falcone, Pit Boss, Scamp, and Speed Racer, just to name a few. They also come with either potato salad (which is actually good), chips and salsa, or slaw and a pickle.
So far, I haven’t had anything that I didn’t like there.
I have several favorites, including:
- the Taylor Street Italian (coppa, genoa salami, ham and provolone cheese topped with lettuce, oil and vinegar, oregano, mayo and giardiniera served on a toasted French roll)
- the Chickenhawk (Sliced chicken breast grilled with BBQ sauce then topped with Monterey jack cheese, red onion and bacon served on a toasted French roll)
- the Pit Boss (Savory ham, smoked bacon and swiss cheese topped with a tangy vinaigrette, lettuce, tomato and pepperoncini served on a toasted French roll with mayo).
For my vegetarian friends, field roast can be substituted for meat.
