RESTAURANT REVIEW: Jude’s Old Town Under New Ownership

Dear friends,

Since we’re not currently able to dine-in at our favorite restaurants, I will be reviewing take-out experiences for a while, and I want to preface this with some guidelines for take out / delivery in these weird times.

First, please be patient with the restaurants. The volume of take out is all new for them and they are adjusting.

Second, plan ahead if you want to order out. They may not answer the phone right away so you may need to start calling early. The same applies to online ordering. Just be ready for things to not work perfectly. I recommend starting around 2-3 pm for dinner takeout.

Jude’s Old Town seems to have worked out their takeout schedule, because our latest order was ready right on time. Although we did call at 3 pm for a 6 pm pick up.

If you have eaten at Jude’s in the past, I would encourage you to try it again. The bartender bought the restaurant recently and changed the interior to make it cozier and so that it seats more, so it’s a much nicer atmosphere.

Unfortunately, COVID-19 hit shortly after the re-opening so we’re not currently able to enjoy that vibe, but not so with the food, which is vastly improved with the new ownership.

The menu is a bit smaller, but is now Cajun influenced with entrees like fried catfish, fried chicken, grits, collard greens, dirty rice, gumbo, mac and cheese, and prawns.

Being a southern boy, this is definitely comfort food for me. They make a good burger and their fries are AMAZING!

Jude’s is also serving cocktail kits for you to take home and make.

They have always had good cocktails, which I have missed, so this is a nice touch.

And they have a good selection of wines and beers as well. I am happy to support Jude’s Old Town, and I hope that they can make it through this pandemic.

I highly recommend giving them a try.
