Dear friends: One of my favorite pastimes is trying out new restaurants with my husband Alan and other friends. This review is my way of sharing that with you as well. Enjoy!
BOPBOX is an Asian fusion lunch restaurant located in the Georgetown neighborhood of South Seattle. It is a women-owned restaurant featuring seasonal and hand-crafted Korean Bibimbop, made-to-order grain bowls, and fermented goods.
Everything from sauces and marinades to the pickles and kimchi are made by hand in small-batches, with a seasonal rotating menu.
BOPBOX is a small restaurant where you order at the counter and then find an open table. Each table has napkins, forks, and chopsticks. Water bottles and cups are in the fridge next to where you pay. The look and feel of the restaurant is pretty trendy and casual. They have vegan and vegetarian options.
All the tables tend to fill up at lunch time, but the food arrives fairly quickly. There is street parking, but it can be a challenge to find a spot at lunch time.
I first tried BOPBOX with a group of former coworkers, who are also friends. We get together on Fridays for lunch depending on everyone’s availability. I have been back a number of times since then. My favorite dish is the Bibimbop, which is a stone pot with sautéed vegetables with a sunny side up egg.
You get to choose your protein, grains, and sauces. I have tried it with various combinations and have loved every one. I want to venture out and try something else, but I just can’t go there without getting the Bibimbop!
From the owners:
“Conscientious of providing something to eat for every body, we do our best to accommodate a vegetarian or vegan, gluten-free or low-carb diet, incorporating an omnivorous and vegetable-forward menu. Come say hi, order at the counter, grab a book from our library, and stay awhile!”
Finally, the employees are friendly, the food is fresh and tasty, and it isn’t so noisy inside that you can’t talk like a lot of restaurants. I highly recommend checking it out.
