When is the best time to sell?

Dear Anne:

The best time to sell will depend on your particular situation.

Do you need to sell for a specific reason? Is it time sensitive?

For instance, have you been transferred by your work to a new city? Do you need to sell for financial reasons? Do you need the cash for another investment? Do you want to sell so that you can buy a larger place? Etc.

If you have a choice, the time to potentially sell the fastest and to make the most money is the spring market from February to May. That’s not to say that your property will sell slowly and for less money at any other time, but that you will have the greatest opportunity in the spring market. You will have more competition from other listings, but the pool of buyers will be greater this time of year.
